Pirate Map By Cornelius

Once upon a time there was a pirate that spotted a palm tree that had coconuts. Then there was a pot of gold that they could find if they looked at the treasure map. The pirate made his footsteps on the map so he could not get lost. He followed the map all the way to the treasure. "Ho, ho ho I found treasure" shouted the pirate.

Welcome back to Term 3

It seems everyone had a wonderful break here in Pod 6. This morning we were excited to get straight back into our learning and write about the adventures we had in the holidays. Everyone did different things. Here are some of our awesome learners getting stuck in to writing about their holidays. It is so good to be back at school with you all.

Lexi quietly writing about her holidays.

Callum writing up a storm. Getting all his holiday adventures written down.

Persia thoughtfully writing her ideas.

Niwa writing an awesome recount about his little brothers birthday.

Buddy Reading

Reading is one of our favourite things to do in Pod 6. Last week we got to read with Pod 10. We shared our reading with them and they shared their reading with us. It was really fun, we found out that LOTS of pod 6 have older brothers or sisters in pod 10. It was wonderful for them to listen to us read. We appreciated them reading to us. Thanks Pod 10.

Matariki Sharing

Today we got to share our learning about Matariki with other classes. Shana got to stand up infront of Pod 1/2 and Pod 4/5 and tell them about what we did to celebrate and learn about Matariki. She was nervous but did an amazing job. Well done Shana for talking about our learning. Thank you Pod 1/2 and 4/5 for coming to visit us.

Cinquain

This week we have been learning about writing cinquains. We have done an amazing job at learning how to write them and giving it a go.  When you write a cinquain you have to follow the order of how to write it.

A cinquain is written like this:
First line - 2 syllables
Second line - 4 syllables
Third line - 6 syllables
Fourth line - 8 syllables
Fifth line - 2 syllables

Here are a selection of the cinquains we wrote.

Codfish Island

Did you know there is a tiny island called Codfish Island. It is below the South Island to the right of Stewart Island. Codfish Island has some special treasure that not many people have seen. It isn't silver or gold and you wont find it in a treasure box. It is a beautiful bird that is called a Kakapo. The Kakapo does not fly, it is nocturnal which means it sleeps during the day and comes out at night. Kakapo like to eat berries. Kakapo are endangered, this means that there not that many of them left in our country. Stoats, mice and rats are predators. Codfish Island is a special island because it does not have any predators and the Kakapo are safe.
